Imani

“Ah.” I gasped as I slowly eased my way into the car.

Taking a deep breathe I allowed myself to sink into the seat as I stared blankly up at the roof of the car.

‘You got a lot of learning to do if you planning on keeping me from Robin.’ I could hear James repeating over and over in her head.

“Lord, help me. I’m in love with a man that no longer gives a fuck about me.” I started to cry.

I was helplessly alone and hurting with no one to go to.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

“Shit!” I said as I grabbed my chest.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you. I saw you crying through the window and I just wanted to make sure you were okay.” He said as he looked at me with his beautiful dark brown eyes.

“Ummm…yea. I’m okay.” I lied as I wiped the tears that continued to fall.

“Come inside.” He said as he opened my car door and grabbed me by the hand.

‘His hands are so soft.’ I thought as I willingly got out the car and followed him back inside the store.

I didn’t know this man from a can of paint and had only seen him a few times when I would come to the store to shop, never really paid him any attention, until now.

“Go ahead, have a seat. Tea?” He offered as we stepped into the tiny office, that sat in the back of the store.

The traditional furniture gave the room a rather homie and welcoming feel about it. I sat in the chair closet to the door.

“Sure.” I answered as I turned around and spotted a picture sitting on the nearby table. It was of him and Ms. Mitchell.

“You know Ms. Mitchell don’t you? I’m Morris Macintosh by the way.” He introduced himself as he brought me over a cup of tea and took a seat on the edge of his desk.

“Yes I do. I’m Imani by the way. Thanks for the tea.”

“No problem. She’s a sweet little old lady isn’t she?”

“She is.”

“I met her almost ten years ago when owning this place was still nothing more than a dream. She’s the one who actually talked me into buying it and she’s been here ever since, helping me build this baby from the ground up. This here is our pride and joy.” He said with a sense of pride as he looked around his tiny office.

“That’s definitely something to be proud of.” I shook my head in agreement, as I lifted my cup to my mouth.

He and James couldn’t be more different. Morris seemed to be satisfied with the simple things in life. But James on the other hand needed the bigger and flashiest of things.

“Now you know more about me than you did just a moment ago. How about you? Why don’t’ you tell me why you look as if you are always sad?”

“I don’t know what you mean.”

“You know exactly what I mean. From the crying alone in your car, to the
